In retrospect, the academic year 2019-20 started uneventfully. Then, in the Spring 2020, three major disruptions occurred: the COVID-19 pandemic, its economic and social repercussions, and the burst in the awareness of the impact of racism and ethnic disparities in our society. As these crises unfolded, our faculty members turned their focus on their impacts on the mental health of our patients, health professionals, and the general public. At the same time, the Department adapted and innovated to ensure we could continue to effectively achieve our education and research missions in this new context. The support we provided and continue to provide to each other is more important than ever in this time of crises. By keeping our community active, we ensure our connections to one another remain strong.
